Hi guys, welcome to Marieta's Yarnland . Today, starting a new project. Crocheting Scarf with Puff stitch. Love this stitch. I had two skeins of very warm and puffy yarn, so thought to useful it for this project. Also use hook n.4,5mm / US7 . For the pattern for this stitch, used stitches multiple of 4 plus 10 more stitches for the edges. 5 stitches for the left edge, 5 stitches for the right edge. In the scarf, made 10 repeats of the daisy so made 40chains plus 10chains, total 50chains in the starting. We'll be in common as the project working. I hope that the result will be puffy, warm and beautiful. Thank you very much, happy stitches to All of You All Over the World , thanks for the following the project. Bye bye from Marieta's Yarnland
When I first saw the "broomstick" stitch, I was impressed, from the beautiful stitch which looks like for me like a peacock's tail.. Also, thougth that it would be particularly difficult to learn how to crochet that magic stitch.
I thought that it
would be particularly complicated and difficult to understand in its creation. But when I got the
hang of creating it step by step, it was a very happy game.
For the record, the name "Broomstick" came from the fact that
crocheters in the 19th century used the handle of the broomstick
to spin their yarn and drop the stitches to create theknitting.
Today, we don't use the broom handle, but very thick knitting needles, 20
or 25 mm(35 US).As bigger the needle that
used for the loop, the result of lace will be big.You can try,
experiment and see which will suit you best for the result you would like in
your knitting.
Remember that the
circumference of whatever you use will determine how large your lace pattern
is.
Yarn: Worsted - Aran weight (4), best in multicolor degrade color. For the picture scarf used 3skeins of Mochi Plus CRYSTAL PALACE YARNS - gauge 16-18sts/10cm-4inc, per skein 95yds/50gr /87m/50gr
Needles:
one knitting needle n.25mm (US35) (to use as broomstick)
Hook:
n. 5.0mm (H) it depends on the yarn notes.
Notions:
sc-single crochet,
ch-chain,
R - row
broomstick stitch (many videos in youtube - written instructions are below)
for broomstick pattern, stitches have to be multiple of 5 for every set (ex. 20sts or 25stitches)
work all chains-stitches to the back loop
Measurements: for adult size -
length 70inc(174cm-medium size) to 82inc(205cm, large size)
width 8inc(20cm - medium size) to 10inc(25cm large size)
Set up rows:
Row 1: Ch 25+1ch for turning .
Row 2:Sc in 2nd ch from hook and 1sc in each chain across.
We should have, 25 sc.
Starting pattern:
When you reach the end of the 2nd set up row,put your hook in the back loop of the every chain, and pull up on a loop(make a Yo) and slide it onto your big knitting needle. Push the Yo loop (and all next Yo loops of the row) all the way back to the fullest part of the needle. (Pull up a loop from the back loop of each chain of the row and slide it onto the knitting needle). Insert your hook into the next sc. Well, draw a loop. Slide the loop onto the knitting needle. Repeat across the row until you have 25 loops on the needle. Pull all the loops off the knitting needle. Insert your hook through the first 5 loops. Pass the yarn over and pull the yarn through all 5 loops. Yo and make a sc - 1chain, that is the turning chain. (this chain does not count in the stitches of the pattern) Now you will see something like peacock tail
We grouped stitches of 5 (multiple of 5 loops), so now we *Pass the yarn over and pull the yarn through all 5 loops* x5times, made,5sc in the middle of all 5loops. so now we crocheted our 1st broomstick set.
Continue to work, in the next 5 loops with the same way. Insert your hook through the next 5 loops. Pull the loop through x 5times and make 5sc . Continue with the same way, across the row until all the loops are crocheted in group of 5sc.
Notice that the sc you made in each loop formed the base for the next row. In each sc, you will , pulling up loop and placing it on the knitting needle, just as you did in previous row. .
Continue as repeat the previous steps, until you reach the desired number of rows for the desire length.
Broomstick stitch, is a lace stitch which can used in scarf, shawl, in baby cardigan, neckwarmer, bag .
Different width of yarn give, different result but in any time is so beautiful and i love it.
Happy stitches in your knitting and crocheting travels
