Spiral Brooch

Crochet, fabric, metal, ceramic brooches with beads, buttons or threads, worn on the jacket, blouses and dresses have always been a favorite accessory of mine.

 The spiral crochet brooch, always stayed in my mind. 

I wanted to create one. Now it's the time of it.  

It’s an easy item, even for beginners in crochet.

Abbreviations – US:

• ·             R: row
• ·             St(s) : stitch (s)
• ·             sc: single crochet
• ·             ch : chain
• ·             inc : increase
• ·             dec: decrease

Materials: 

•  Yarn: You can use any yarn you prefer from weight:  Sport or DK or Light  worsted.

• In the brooch of photo, I used sport weight, cotton yarn multicolored.  
• 50grams / 1,74oz   110metr/4,33inc
• Gauge: 23sts à 4’
• Crochet hook: 3mm-  D/3
• A pair of scissors
• needle to sew the pin
• safety pin

 Notes: except for the 1st row, all other rows until the last crochet in the back loop through out to create the ridge.

Starting: (leaving a length of yarn long enough to weave through & gather one edge and tie off.)

Set up row:  Chain 21

  R1: 

• make 2sc in the 2^nd ch from hook, 
• continue with 1sc in every ch to last 2chs,
•  dec,  1ch - turn (total in the row: 20sts) 
  

  R2: 

•      dec,
•     1sc in every st to last st of the row, 
•      inc., 1ch,- turn,(total in the row: 20sts)

  R3:

•      inc,
•      1sc in every ch to last 2chs, 
•      dec , 1ch - turn (total in the row: 20sts)

Repeat rows 2 &3 for a total of 21 rows.

 We close the last st and leave a long tail of yarn in the end.
Turn the right corner to the left 

Turn the left corner to the right side.
 Just creates the diagonal where the two sides of corners meet.

Join the 2 diagonal sides by sew it as zig zag
Do not cut the yarn

 

Sew around one side of the brooch.
Do not cut the yarn
Pull the yarn, tight. 

Safe the yarn, and
Bring it from inside to the opposite side of brooch.
Sew perimeter with the same way,  
Pull the yarn, tight. 

  

Safe the yarn, waves in end.
Sew the safety pin on the back.
You can add button or beads for decoration on the face of brooch.
